Asian Handicap is where the odds-compiler gives a goals deficit to the team he/she thinks is most likely to win the game expressed in goals, or fractions of goals

You may wonder why do this, well the answer lies in giving you an opportunity to bet on a mis match, it also turns soccer into a game where you either win or lose with no draws.

Okay so you are no clearer in your understanding let's give you an example: Okay Manchester United have been drawn against Southend in the Cup. You would quite rightly expect Southend to Thrash Man U sorry only joking.

Really you would expect Manchester United to win this one and the odds will usually be around 1/10, however on the Asian Handicaps you might find man U priced up with a -2.5 goal start at 10/11 and Southend with a +2.5 goal start at a similiar price.

So rather than back the team to simply win the match you are backing them to overcome the handicap given them, so if you think Southend can avoid a defeat by three goals or more you would back them to win.

At times you will see a handicap expressed as + or - 0.25 goal start (alternatively writted as 0, 0.5).

This means half of your stake is on your chosen team with 0- goal handicap, and half your stake with a 0.5-goal handicap. If you put £40 on a team with a +0.25-goal start at evens and the match finishes 1-1, £20 placed with a 0-goal start is returned as it equalled the handicap, while you get £20 back from the winning half of your bet.
