The casino glossary is a useful tool for those people who are not familiar with the language used in casino's there are lots of terms that although they have an every day meaning within a casino they can sometimes mean something totally different.

Jackpot - a large payout, either on a table or a machine

Joint - a derogatory term for a casino

Joker's Wild - a form of video poker that uses an extra card (the Joker) as a wild card

Juice - the commission that the house charges on buy bets at craps and winning bank bets in baccarat. AKA Vig or Vigorish, the influence that casino executives pass out to lower ranking employees for promotions or special favours

Junket - a trip arranged and paid for by a casino for a group of special players

Junket Rep - organizer of junkets

Casino Glossary K to M

Keno Board, Keno Counter, Keno Writer, Kicker, Loose machine, marker, match play, monkey,

keno Board - The electronic sign that indicates the winning keno numbers

Keno Counter - the area where the keno tickets are collected and the winning bets are paid

Keno Runner - An employee who circulates through a casino hotel taking keno bets.

Keno Writer - an employee who works at the keno counter taking bets and paying winners

Kicker - in poker an extra card that is kept with a pair to give the impression that the player has more than simply a pair

Lace - In baccarat a method of mixing the cards after shuffling.

Ladder Man - the casino supervisor who watches a baccarat game from a high chair

Lammers - Plastic buttons that signify the amount of commission owed by players at a baccarat game also identifies the amount of money issued to a player for a marker.

Laying Odds - for the wrong bettor to make an odds bet on a don't come or don't pass bet

Layout - The design imprinted on the table showing the various bets at the games.

Little Joe - when you roll a four in craps, originates from little joe from kokomo

Loose Machine - a slot machine that has been set to return a high percentage of the money played in that machine.

Long Term - refers to the fact that a casino will always win over a period of time and why a player can win short term.

Low Hand - one of the two hands in Pai Gow and Pai Gow Poker.

Low Pair - In poker a pair that can't open the betting in Video poker a non winning pair.

Mark - an individual who has been or might be a target to be cheated. 

Marker - a cheque the player fills out before receiving casino credit at a table, basically an IOU  

Match Play - a casino promotion where the player receives a coupon or non-redeemable chip that can be bet with real money, If it wins it's paid out with real chips. 

Mini Baccarat - A smaller version of the big baccarat game played for lower stakes.  

Money Plays - an expression used in Nevada when the player doesn't want the dealer to exchange his money for chips. A winning bet will be paid in chips. 

Money Wheel - another name for the Big Six Wheel  

Money Management - the system that a player uses to conserve his funds.  

Monkey - Ten or Face Card 

Monster Roll - where a craps play achieves the ultimate over a period of time to roll many numbers and gain lots of points. 

Mucker - a cheater who uses sleight of hand tricks, also second dealer at a roulette table.  

Multiple Coin Machine - slot and video poker machines that require more than one coin.  

Multiple Deck Games - Blackjack games using more than one deck of cards

Multiple Hands - to play more than one hand at blackjack.

Nickel, nutk one armed bandit, paddle, paint,

Nail - to catch someone cheating.

Natural - a perfect hand, at blackjack, an Ace & Ten value card, at Baccarat a total of eight or nine in the first two cards. At craps a seven or eleven on the come out roll.

Negative Progression - any betting system where you increase your bets after a loss

Nickel - a $5 chip or a $500 sports bet.

No Action - a term used by a dealer to indicate that the casino will not take a particular bet or that roll doesn't count.

Nut - the amount of money a casino needs to make a profit, the amount of money a player needs to accomplish his goals.

Off - to remove a bet at craps for one or more rolls, it means no decision can be made on those bets. Only place and odds bets can be called 'off'

On - a craps call that your bets are working for the next roll.

One Armed Bandits - a term given to slot machines

One Roll Bets - any bet decided by the very next roll.

On The Square - a fair and honest game.

Open -to make the first bet at poker

Openers - cards that qualify a player to open in poker

Paddle - The device used to push money into the drop box

Paint - a face card

Pair - two cards of the same value

Palm - to conceal money or chips in your palm

Parlay - to double a bet after a win

Pass - a win by the shooter at craps, either by rolling a seven or eleven on the come out roll or making the point before rolling a seven

Pat Hand - any hand in a card game that requires no additional cards
